Owen Taylor
| Mechanical Engineering Student | Vice President of Academic |
I am Owen Taylor, a third-year Mechanical Engineering student at Toronto Metropolitan University with a strong interest in mechanical design, automotive systems, and applied problem-solving. My academic background has given me a solid foundation in engineering analysis, CAD modeling, thermodynamics, and systems integration, while my extracurricular work has allowed me to apply these skills in hands-on, team-driven environments.
Beyond the classroom, I serve as Vice President Academic for the Metropolitan Undergraduate Engineering Society (MUES), representing over 5,000 students and collaborating with faculty to strengthen academic support and resources. This leadership experience has developed my abilities in communication, project management, and advocacy, while reinforcing the importance of teamwork in achieving meaningful outcomes.
I also contribute to TMU Formula Racing, the university’s Formula SAE team, where I have worked on the design, assembly, and integration of mechanical subsystems for a competition race car. My involvement has included CAD design of custom parts, supporting suspension and drivetrain assembly, and assisting in system testing under competition constraints. This project has given me valuable experience bridging theory and practice while developing practical engineering solutions under tight timelines.
I am seeking co-op opportunities where I can apply my technical training, leadership experience, and passion for engineering to real-world challenges. My long-term goal is to contribute to the development of innovative mechanical systems while continuing to expand my expertise in design, manufacturing, and system optimization.
